MYTHOLOGIES

Date: Saturday, November 27, 2021 & Sunday, November 28, 2021
Location: Paul Taylor Sam Scripps Studio Theater in Manhattan

After 21 long months, Cherylyn Lavagnino Dance returns to live performance for our NYC 2021 Season: Saturday, November 27 and Sunday, November 28, 2021, at the Paul Taylor Sam Scripps Studio Theater in Manhattan.

Mythologies is set to a commissioned score composed by Scott Killian (keyboard artist), Jacob Lawson (violinist and sound engineer) and Carol Lipnik — featured vocalist who will be performing live.

Mythologies is an expansion of Cherylyn's most recent work, Monsters of Grace, which premiered at APAP in January 2020. This new work, composed of five movements, is born out of Cherylyn's desire to explore how strength, grace, and femininity can co-exist in a single body. This work is an early exploration of gender roles; the developing movement with male dancers centers around camaraderie and the deeply committed loyalty these warriors held for one another. CLD celebrates the unique qualities and individualism of each company member as this work puts forward a vision of full-bodied, qualified dancers whose varied inner lives and ways of occupying space lend strength and poignancy to their performance, defying stereotypes around what bodies are suited to ballet.

Tickets go on sale October 10, 2021.
